How to get the perfect fit for your fedora in 4 easy steps

If your hat is too big, it can flop over your forehead and cast a shadow on your face, and if it’s too small, well, it just doesn’t sit or feel right! The good news is that everyone can look and feel good in a fedora hat - you just need to find your perfect fit.
1. Find a company that offers a range of sizes
You want the full-size range to choose from, so first choose a company that does more than just the standard three sizes of small, medium and large. This is even more important if you're after a fedora for a small or large head which high street retailers don't cater for. Moxie and Swing sizes start at extra small (55) and go all the way up to extra large (60).
2. Next grab your measuring tape
To get your fedora hat size, you must measure the circumference of your head. You’ll need to wrap the tape measure around your head, going across your forehead just above the eyebrows. Make sure the tape measure is above your ears by around 1/8 inch (just over 3cm). Overall, you are looking for a snug, rather than a tight fit.
If you don’t have a tape measure lying around, you can use a piece of string to get an estimated measurement. Wrap the string around your head as you would do a tape measure and make a small mark where the two ends meet. Then lay the string down flat on the ground and measure the length of the string. This won’t be the most accurate hat size, but it will give you a general idea!
3. Play with the fit
If when you measure you find yourself in between sizes, then try going up a size and purchasing some reducer tape. Each of our reducer tapes are 0.4cm thick and easily stick under the headband. So, get two and play around to get the exact fit for your hat. For example, you can put a tape either side and narrow the sides of the hat or put in the front or back to reduce the length.
4. Finally, consider fabric
If you think you’ll be wearing your hat for any length of time, opt for a lightweight hat as this will be more comfortable to wear. Wool felt is particularly renowned for being a naturally light fabric. The headband can also make a lot of difference to the overall hat wearing experience. Favour soft fabrics that are better at sweat-wicking.
So, there you go. Four easy steps to get your perfect fit.
